LogistikPlan Industry Sector: Microelectronics
Savings Potential Lies in the Details
Microelectronics and photovoltaic products share one highly demanding material: silicon wafers. Every production stage places the highest technological and logistical demands on precision, environmental conditions (cleanliness / climate control / vibration control / etc.), and setup-optimized control of expensive production equipment.
For more than 20 years, LogistikPlan has been familiar with the specific challenges of a wide range of technologies – from ultra-pure silicon production, crystal growth and wafer manufacturing through to frontend and backend semiconductor production.
► High-Tech Logistics in Practice: Infineon Technologies AG
For Infineon Technologies AG, one of the world's leading providers of semiconductor solutions, all signs point to growth. Even the establishment of the Dresden facility in 2001 – then known as the “Siemens Microelectronics Center Dresden” – was carried out under the ambitious project title “Fab of the Future”. Since then, numerous modular expansion stages of the semiconductor facility have followed, some of them accompanied by LogistikPlan Managing Director Stefan Gärtner. With the latest expansion phase, the “Smart Power Fab”, Infineon will open its fourth manufacturing module in 2026, representing an investment volume of approximately EUR 5 billion.
LogistikPlan supported Infineon's current site development with a completely new concept for site logistics. The supply of the state-of-the-art facility is now handled through a new external central warehouse. A particular challenge was the analysis of the complex logistics requirements of the semiconductor fab operating 24 hours a day. Based on forecasts of future transport volumes and supply processes, LogistikPlan developed a modern material flow and equipment concept, including a container concept and conveyor system, buffer and warehouse zoning, as well as transfer points for cleanroom supply and disposal processes. In this way, LogistikPlan ensures optimal Supply Chain operations for Infineon, covering all raw materials, auxiliary materials and operating supplies through to seamless spare parts logistics.

► Solutions Across the Entire Value Chain:
Within the "Microelectronics" competence field, LogistikPlan has been active across the entire value chain for more than 20 years. We support factory planning for the production of ingots, bricks and wafers made from silicon dioxide (Si) or gallium arsenide (GaAs), as well as semiconductor chips, PV modules and nickel-metal hydride batteries (NiMH), always taking a holistic view of logistics.
Successful plant operations depend on far more than processes within the cleanroom. To secure competitive advantages and cost-saving potential, LogistikPlan also focuses on site logistics, the supply and disposal of production areas, optimized Supply Chains, solutions for global Shipping logistics, and spare parts warehouses that ensure 24/7 maintenance support.
